SSSHP is an intensive one-day practical programme designed to introduce participants to core surgical techniques in a safe, structured, and supportive environment. Through expert-led hands-on training, attendees gain proficiency in aseptic practice, instrument handling, knot tying, suturing, and wound management—essential foundations for anyone beginning a career in surgery or preparing for clinical rotations.
Course Content
At the start of the SSSHP course, participants engage in a series of hands-on training sessions focused on the principles of aseptic technique and safe surgical practice. You will learn to:
- Prepare and maintain a sterile field, including correct gowning, gloving, and draping procedures.
- Handle and use essential surgical instruments such as scalpels, forceps, and needle holders safely and efficiently.
- Master both hand-tied and instrument-tied knot techniques.
- Practice a range of suturing methods for effective wound closure and tissue handling.
- Perform basic procedures such as skin preparation and the administration of local anaesthesia.
- Understand the fundamentals of wound management, including safe closure and minor lesion excision.
